The short version

Who makes the game

Harbor Frenzy is a game for iPhone made by Nicholas Ward, an independent developer ("I" and "me" in this policy). You can reach me at harborfrenzy@nickwward.com.

What stays on your iPhone

The game saves your best scores, crate counts, which harbors you have opened, your settings (music, sound effects and fast-forward speed), the skipper name you type, how many rescues you have, and the day you last used a daily rescue. All of this is kept in the game's own storage on your iPhone (your purchases and rescues may also be kept in your own iCloud, as described below). I cannot see it, and it is not sent to me. Deleting the game deletes it. Reset progress in Options clears your scores and crate counts.

Your skipper name and postcards

The skipper name is optional. It is shown on the postcard at the end of a shift. When you tap Send Postcard, the game makes a picture of the postcard and opens your iPhone's share menu. You choose whether to share it and where. I do not receive it.

Ads (Google AdMob)

When a shift ends, the postcard may offer "Watch an ad for a rescue". No ad plays unless you tap that button. There are no ads during play, no ads between shifts and no banner ads.

The ads come from Google AdMob. So that an ad is ready when you want one, the game starts Google's ad software when it opens and loads one ad in the background, even if you never watch it. If you own Daily Rescue (no ads), you never see an ad or an offer of one.

Every ad request from the game is set up like this:

Even so, Google's ad software collects some information when it loads or shows an ad. Google lists it as:

Google uses this to show ads, measure them, prevent fraud and abuse, and fix problems. I do not receive this information about you. I only see totals, such as how many ads were shown. To learn more, see how Google uses data when you use its partners' apps and Google's Privacy Policy.

Who else receives data

Google is the only outside company that receives information through the game, and only for the ads described above. Google is bound by its own privacy policy and by the rules for ad requests directed to children, and I chose settings that limit what it may do with the information. That protects your information at least as well as this policy does. Purchases, iCloud and Game Center are Apple's own services and are covered by Apple's Privacy Policy.

Purchases

If you buy something in the game, such as rescues, Fenders or Daily Rescue (no ads), you buy it through Apple's App Store. Apple handles the payment. I never see your card, your Apple Account or your name. Apple sends me sales reports that do not identify you.

iCloud

So that your purchases and rescues are not lost when you change phones, the game may keep a small record of them, such as your rescue count, in your own private iCloud storage. Only your Apple Account can read it. I cannot.

Game Center

If you use Apple's Game Center, the game sends your scores and achievements to Game Center so they can appear on leaderboards under your Game Center nickname. Game Center is run by Apple, and Apple's Privacy Policy applies to it. You can turn Game Center off in your iPhone's Settings.

Crash reports from Apple

The game has no analytics or tracking tools of its own. If you have agreed in your iPhone's Settings to share analytics with app developers, Apple may send me crash reports and usage statistics that do not identify you.

Children

Harbor Frenzy is a family game, rated 4+, for players of all ages. I do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone, including children under 13. Ad requests are marked as directed to children, as described above. If you believe a child has sent me personal information, for example in an email, write to me and I will delete it.

If you email me

If you write to me, I receive your email address and what you send. I use them only to read and reply to your message. Please do not include personal information about a child.

How long information is kept

Report an ad

Ads should always be suitable for a family game, but one that is not may slip through. If you see an ad that is inappropriate, misleading or not suitable for children, please tell me: tap Report an ad in the game's Options, or email harborfrenzy@nickwward.com. Say what the ad showed and about when you saw it, so I can block it.

Your choices

Changes to this policy

If the game changes what it collects, I will update this page and the date at the top before the change reaches the App Store.
